RS-25

Zero ODP drop-in replacement for R12 in centrifugal chillers

RS-25 is a non ozone depleting replacement for R12 in centrifugal chillers which requires no change to the equipment and no requirement to drain out the existing lubrciant because this new refrigerant can be used with all types of lubricants including mineral oil and the new sysnthetic lubrciants.

RS-25 is a near azeotropic blend containing non ozone depleting components. Because the molecular weight and speed of sound of RS-25 are close to those of R12 together with its ability to use the traditional lubricants, it can be dropped into an existing centrifugal chiller without any changes to the system. RS-25 is also non flammable with a major component of the blend used as a fire retardant agent.

As a consequence of these unique properties, RS-25 does provide a serious alternative to a full retrofit to R134a and avoids the attendant high retrofit costs associated with switching to R134a. Furthermore, due to the fact that it has a zero Ozone Depletion Potential, RS-25 provides a long term solution to a potentially difficult problem.

Lubricants

RS-25 is compatible with both the traditional and new synthetic lubricants so that there is no need to change the oil when converting from R12 to RS-25. RS-45 is suitable for use with mineral, alkylbenzene and polyol ester oils.

Safety

The components of RS-45 have been subjected to toxicity tests carried out by Alternative Fluorocarbons Environmental Acceptability Study (AEAS), and have been declared to be of low toxicity. Health & safety data is available on request.

RS-25 is non flammable as formulated.

Servicing

Because RS-25 is a blend, it should be charged into the system in the liquid as opposed to vapour form. There is no need to make any hardware changes when converting from R12 to RS-25.
